Lee Anderson scores party’s first win of night as exit poll forecasts rightwing party could end up with 13 seats

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has become an MP for the first time as his right-wing populist party ate into the Conservative vote at the general election across the country.

The arch-Brexiter won the constituency of Clacton in Essex, with the seat declared early on Friday morning. A national exit poll suggested the party would take 13 seats overall.

Just after 4am, Richard Tice, Reform’s chair, took the seat of Boston & Skegness from the Conservatives with a majority of 2,010.
