The UK government is undermining its drive to bring benefits claimants into work by rushing in reforms to workers’ rights that will make it riskier to take a chance on new hires, business groups have warned.
The comments came as ministers on Tuesday set out plans to overhaul the country’s system of employment support in the “get Britain working again” white paper.
Liz Kendall, work and pensions secretary, told parliament that “fundamental reform” was needed to overhaul the Jobcentre network, improve support for people with health conditions to work, and introduce a requirement for young people to “earn or learn” to qualify for benefits.
