Chinese shares punched more than 4 per cent higher on Monday, chalking up their biggest gains since the turning point of the recent bear-market.

At the close, the Shanghai Composite was up 4.9 per cent to 3,928.42. That is the index's biggest gain since July 9, which is the day after the Chinese sharemarket closed at its bear market-low, writes Peter Wells.
