Smart buildings could open door to hackers

While film buffs may comprehend the dangers of meticulously timed criminal attacks on technological systems in buildings, it seems many executives are not yet alert to the risks that today’s internet-connected devices pose to their operations.

One Hollywood example of a threat is Ocean’s Eleven, the 2001 casino-heist thriller in which a professional thief and his accomplices hijack surveillance cameras to steal the contents of a safe at a Las Vegas casino.

The film series is one of several including the Mission: Impossible, James Bond and Die Hard franchises that have reprised the drama of buildings subject to electronic ambush.
